John T. White history

Posted in: John T White

My name is Barbara Garrison. I lived on Kuban Lane as a child and my parents and grandparents donated the land to start Calvary Baptist Church in the '50s. I attended John T. White elementary school and would like information on the history of the school and pictures of it. Actually, any info on the history of JTW would be great. I have a bit to contribute if anyone is interested. Thanks very much. Barbara

My father taught at the school in l955 or 56. His name is Pete Newman and he too wanted to know what happened to the school.  Any info would be appreciated.

Hi there, What grade did your dad teach?  I don't recall the name. Does he remember other teachers who were there? I had Miss Miser, Miss Rice, Mrs.Powell, Mrs. Stevenson and then 6th grade I moved and can't recall the teacher's name. There is a new school opening on March 31 on the corner of JTWhite Lane and Sandy I believe.

Located on approximately 12 acres of undeveloped land just east of Loop 820 and north of I30, the new Fort Worth elementary school will relieve an underserved growing community.  The proposed one-story facility addresses the prominent intersection with a welcoming ‘front porch’ that extends from the ma San Diegoin entry and provides a protected gathering space.  From this covered entry, the larger scaled public spaces are connected to form a vertical, light filled lobby that links the Media Center, Cafeteria, Gymnatorium and Administration areas.  The facility is sited to front the main street with a linear public facade that faces northward to allow for controlled natural light throughout.

The program includes eight kindergarten classrooms, six 1st grade primary classrooms, 16 primary and intermediate classrooms, and two special education classrooms with a design capacity of 650 students.  A loading dock will be located at the southeast corner of the building.   The main parking lot will be located east of the school building and future expansion is planned west of the school building.  Construction of the school is planned to begin in early 2010 allowing the school to open in the fall of 2011.

If you write me back, please use bargarrison@yahoo,com because I seldom remember this forum. Thanks, Barbara Garrison
