If you are here it means that you want to become an involved member of the Keith Creek Neighborhood!
Following the third accident at the 8th Ave and 15th intersection in less than a year I, Nichole, became extremely frustrated with the situation and decided to take action. I contacted alderperson Pat Curran about making it a marked intersection. While he requested that I submit a formal letter for him to present to city council, my frustration level didn’t decrease. Less than a year earlier I had made this same request only to be turned down by the traffic committee on the grounds there was a lack of warrant.
Needless to say, this time around I decided to seek out support from neighbors. One of the first places I went was Redeemer Lutheran Church. Not only was the church very supportive, they also insisted I meet another neighbor, Becky. Long story short, I did call Becky and found out that we had a lot in common. We both felt frustrated with the progress of Keith Creek’s flood issues, live on the weather channel during rain storms, think there is an overall decreased wellbeing in the neighborhood, and wanted to know if there others around like us. I think I can speak for both of us when I say, Becky and I found great comfort knowing that we were not alone and that neither of us was the only person feeling abandoned to struggle in this neighborhood.
All this being said, with the support of Redeemer Lutheran Church and alderperson Karen Elyea, we decided to test the waters and see if there were others like us in the neighborhood. We did this through a neighborhood meeting. Guess what, THERE ARE MORE OF US, and the best part is that coming together (even just to vent) made us all feel a little better, and the rest is history.
Our vision and main goal is for the individuals in this neighborhood to come together and form a solid foundation from here the sky is the limit. This includes supporting and working with each other in an effort to rejuvenate our community. While we know that this is an uphill battle, we both agree that little things can add up to a big difference. We believe that this can be accomplished working together, and we are going to give it our all. Neither one of us wants to walk away from this community, especially without being able to say, “I did everything that I could”.
We would like to invite you to become involved with us. This site is specifically designed for giving the Keith Creek Neighborhood individuals voices, keep us all connected, and serve as a resource.
