Orginally this addition was considered undesireable land to develop because rainwater and runoff would pool in the area and it had the impression of a swamp-like area. Developers Earl Rodman of Odessa, Texas and R.J. Ferrll of Pantego along with a local engineer decided to dig out the low areas where the water collected and develop a community of homes some on the new system of lakes and canals and others immediately adjacent.
Lakewood Addition was platted in 1966 and construction of homes began in 1968 was mostly completed by 1972.
In 2007 with many common interests including nearby a nearby park and two schools, many Lakewood Addition residents became involved with leasing mineral rights for natural gas exploration. The value of being able to organize somewhat quickly in response to the issues and community around them and because the Addition is larger than the Lakewood Homeowners Association (132 homes backing up to the lake), a voluntary association available to all 323 homeowners in the addition has been loosely started with this website and some common communication regarding concerns about gas leasing activity.
