Members carry CB/GMRS radios while on patrol. They ride throughout Leawood looking for conditions that are hazardous or detrimental to its residents, which are then reported to the police and other city departments. These include criminal activity such as drug dealing, gambling, thefts from autos, and burglaries. Identification of abandoned cars, graffiti, overgrown lots and burnt out street lights are just some of the other items reports.
Members of COP do not have the authority to make arrests. They serve as the ''Eyes and Ears'' of the police. The job of COP is to identify and report, not to apprehend.
