The Major Taylor Cycling Club of Denver Inc. was created to honor the first world cycling champion of color, Marshall “Major” Taylor. MTCCD promotes healthy lifestyles for cyclist of all ages. We are comprised of students, adults, and friends from various Denver communities. Our abilities range from aspiring riders to seasoned semi-professionals. Through group rides, youth programs, bike safety/ maintenance classes and volunteer projects we will work to inspire and educate all Denver residents about using cycling as one of the ways to live a healthy life-style.
Major Taylor Cycling Club of Denver Inc. (MTCCD) was founded in 2011 by Darrell D. West.
As a native of Parkhill and a parent. Mr. West knows the value of not just talking about change but doing something to create change in his community. Over the years he has watched the Parkhill neighborhood take a dramatic change. Young people aimlessly wondering the streets with little respect for property or people. A lack of youth programming along with the increase of violent crime in the neighborhood left him without a choice. Talk about it or be about it. Growing up with a father who was a Pastor and the President of Mad Dads, a community organization that fought against gangs and crime in Denver, he knew something had to be done to give Parkhill back to the residents. Mr. West believes that in order to create change we need programs that keep our youth active and involved in positive activities.
