The history of the Association has a beginning of 40 years ago, in the mid-fifties, without formally claiming a name. The task force of the city has operated the Code Enforcement arm
to contact the citizen about a problem or complaint.
Each Mayor enlisted citizens to check and report on the areas surrounding themselves. The bad streets, the vacant houses and the vagrants caused the police to become involved. So there was no need at times for an organized association to be established.
When the structure of the city government changed, there has been a continuing requirement for the areas to be given boundaries and associations be structured with citizen-ties to the Mayor.
In the year 1999 a request was made to have the association incorporated. This was granted in 2000. Now the association is Incorporated and is eligible as a 501(c)3 non-profit Corporation.
The Board Officers attend Corporation Training to understand what can be accomplished as a Corporation. Many citizens have little experience in such an operation. Therefore, it is necessary that assignments of committees and Chairpersons understand its benefits.
The laws, rules and regulations are thus better enabled to accomplish the purpose and goals of the state of Oklahoma for the Mayor.
Working in close coordination with the McClure Park Manager and the Citizen Crime Commission, the Chairman has been able to accomplish an awareness of the benefits of working together. The meetings in the past have provided citizens with one-on-one discussions with city officials to their mutual satisfaction.
Much more has to be done. The Code Enforcement and the Crime Committee are at work to raise the awareness of the police through citizen participation.
