The mission of the Steele Creek Youth Network (SCYN) is to prevent and reduce youth violence in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.
In order to accomplish the Mission, there are three goals and numerous objectives to realize these goals.
Goal #1: Address and eradicate negative risk factors.
Objectives: 1) Increase youth¡¦s sense of belonging
2) Increase number of alternative activities and programs for youth in high crime areas and areas of need
3) Increase the number of adult and youth role models for youth
4) Increase youth¡¦s self-efficacy
Goal #2: Educate about and increase protective factors.
Objectives: 1) Increase economic opportunities for youth, especially job training and placement
2) Increase youth¡¦s hope for the future
3) Create opportunities for youth to participate in activities where they have choices, decision-making power, and shared responsibilities
4) Increase the number of adults and parents involved in SCYN programs
5) Increase the number of community partners with SCYN
Goal #3: Increase awareness and knowledge of youth violence prevention and intervention strategies for youth and adults.
Objectives: 1) Increase the number of Charlotte-Mecklenburg community members attending educational programs on youth violence prevention and intervention
2) Increase the number of educational programs offered
„X Over 150 partnerships with the faith community and non-profit organizations
„X New weekend programs in high crime areas
„X Youth violence prevention and intervention education to youth and adults
„X Outdoor leadership camp ¡V Survivor Copperhead Island ¡V summer camp for youth
„X Youth job training and placement
„X CMS summer youth free lunch program
„X On-going dialogues with youth and Police, clergy, and mentors
„X Youth Advisory Council and Adult Advisory Council
