The fence on Bayview is not illegal.  They put in their request to the Architectural Committee along with their property survey and type of fence.  It was reviewed and approved.  Because of the many requests from the community it has been decided that Privacy Fences are now included among the other fence types in the Rules and Regulations of the Community.  We have working on updating the Rules for the Community and it should be uploaded on the website within the next week.

As an HOA and very few volunteers for the size of this community, unfortunately, some things such as updating the Rules have had to wait behind other priorities.

As far as your comment that McIntyre is in disrepair, I beg to differ.  The majority of the McIntyre residents take care of their properties.  It's maybe 10% that don't and the HOA is constantly working with Pinnacle Management to contact and fine these violators.  We are using everything in our power to get these homeowners/renters to take responsibility for the upkeep of their properties.

You seem to have great enthusiasm about our community.  Maybe you can volunteer a little time on one of the committees.

If you have any other concerns, you are welcome to contact one of the Board members.

A gated community is not the answer. It doesn't keep criminals out. We as a community can stop some of the crimes if we all get involved and not come home and close our door. We have several good people who try very hard to keep crime down and to help pick up trash along with other tasks thru-out the community. Gates are not reliable and can break at anytime. Check the stats for gated community. May I ask what have you contribute or done to make this a better neighborhood. Remember what we do is strictly volunteered...NOT PAID. Contact me anytime for any questions you may have.

Some of you seem very adamant about this gated  system. Obviously you have NEVER lived in a gated community (homes or apt). It doesnt PREVENT crime from outsiders. It does give its residents a pseudo sense of security. But at what cost does a person wanna pay for a FALSE sense of security? PERSONALLY, IM ALL FOR RAISING DUES TO ADD UPGRADES TO THE COMMUNITY.  i noticed the  new community up on reames rd (brookline) has a VERYYYYYY nice gate at the entrance of its community. Would you be willing to pay 100k more to move into a community just because it has a formal gated entrance? Do you think they will be exempt from crime because of their gate?Nothing is 100%  these days, not even stayin home 24/7. But with any UPGRADES there is a dollar amount attached to it. Interesting article below.

Real estate developers build gated communities to appeal to buyers' desire for security and prestige.

Physical walls, in some cases fortified and surveiled, give the inhabitants a sense of security. Some sociologists have criticized the creation of these type of walls as fortressing and have compared them to historical fortifications. Opponents of gated communities argue that physical segregation is not always necessary to create defensible space, that is, to establish control over a particular space. They claim symbolic barriers can be sufficient.

Another criticism is that gated communities offer false security. Studies indicate that safety in gated communiteis is more illusion than reality. Crime statistics show that gated communities have no less crime than non-gated neighborhoods.[6] In addition, bicycle and pedestrian connectivity are often greatly impaired by gated communities.

Gated communities are often insular and homogeneous; that is, grouped along boundaries of social class, race/ethnicity, or culture.[citation needed] The phenomena of "white flight" has historically coincided with the establishment of gated communities.[citation needed]

Common economic model types of gated communities

  • Lifestyle - country clubs, retirement developments.
  • Prestige - gates for status appeal
  • Security Zone Communities - gates for crime and traffic.

I think I have to semi-agree with d_huck, a gate would probably not deter all crime as the people in our neighborhood are probably the ones committing the crime.  I would like to post in the next newsletter's lost and found section the fact that I "lost" my iPod and FM modulator last night from my vehicle.  I am pretty sure it can be "found" in the hands of a McIntyre resident.  How tacky do you have to be to walk around the neighborhood looking in people's vehicles for something to take?  Please!  Get a job and buy your own things.

As for updating the Rules and Regulations of the Community, is that not something the residents have to vote on?  Or does someone just have the power to make those changes?  If the rules have changed, someone should let the guy know at the beginning of Bayview Pkwy so he can put back up the pickets he was forced to remove just a year ago.
