The McKenney Hills - Carroll Knolls neighborhoods can be found nestled between the vibrant downtown Silver Spring area to the South, and the ethnically diverse ever-burgeoning town of Wheaton to the North. This close-in neighborhood community sits just outside of the Beltway (495) and boasts walkable proximity to both the Forest Glen as well as Wheaton Metro stops on the Red Line. Grocery shopping can be found at the Kensington Safeway two miles to the West, the Wheaton Giant and recently re-opened Wheaton Safeway a mile North, as well as the venerable landmark Snider's Super Market, two miles South of the neighborhood. In addition, a plethora of Farmers Markets are all within easy reach.
McKenney Hills - Carrol Knolls is proud to have two Elementary schools within walking distance, Oakland Terrace, and one of the newest (and Greenest) schools in Montgomery County - Flora Singer.
The McKenney Hills - Carroll Knolls Civic Association was founded in 1992 and provides a collective voice when expressing neighborhood concerns to the County, is a source for information on Community events, and builds a stronger sense of neighborhood cohesiveness through social events.
