Meadowview

Meadowview Neighborhood

Located on the southwest side of Longmont near Vance Brand Airport, this original section of MeadowView was built in 1994 by McStain Development, Inc. Two other sections of MeadowView were built later, one to the north and the other to the northwest. Conscious of the environment, McStain constructed 144 single family homes with ”built green” products (43 homes on the eastside, the remainder on the west side of Airport Road). This demonstrates some of the values this neighborhood supports.

MeadowView is bordered by the reclaimed Dry Creek on the northside, Chokecherry on the eastside, Quail Road on the southside, and Hawthorne Place on the westside. Residents tend to be both professional and vocationally inclined people with about a 20% home turnover rate in the last year. About 15% of the homes are sites of home-based businesses. Most homes are Internet “wired”. With two new schools (Eagle Crest Elementary and Silver Creek Middle/Senior High School) nearby, families with children are moving into MeadowView. A bike path traverses the north and a portion of the westside making it somewhat easy for children to ride or walk to school. Dry Creek is centered in greenway space developed and maintained by the City of Longmont. Red Fox, squirrel, Great Horned Owl, deer, and Great Blue Heron are seen resting in the trees and scrub growing at the creek.

When this section of MeadowView was built, it was easy to view three mountain peak groupings -- Indian Peaks, Longs Peak and Estes Park peaks. A significant amount of construction, bordering on urban sprawl, both commercial and residential, has impacted that view and lessened the amount of wildlife. This has also caused Airport Road, going through the middle of the neighborhood, to be expanded twice in the last five years. City Planning Department predicts a third expansion in the near future. Industrial parks and several well-known companies have constructed or are beginning construction of large facilities nearby. Among these are Seagate, Cisco, Kaiser Permanente, and Amgen.

Five minutes’ drive to the east lies the Twin Peaks Mall, the Twin Peaks Cinema, several large retail stores, restaurants, a large grocery store plus lots of ATMs. The Airport provides plenty of entertainment overhead on weekends including watching slow, swirling skydivers drop onto farming land and circling barnstorming bi-planes. At one end of the neighborhood, fresh, organic produce can be purchased from a road stand and at the other end, horses, baby lambs and cows can be oh’d and ad’d at while driving a short distance to the Diagonal (Rt. 119) Highway. Children are seen playing hockey in the cul de sacs, skate boarding the sidewalks, or holding “pretend dress-up shows” on driveways. In the eastside neighborhood park on the eastside, families picnic or play “guys-only” football and mothers chase their kids in the playground area. Here, there are soccer drills supervised by parents for their small kids on Saturday mornings, kite fly-offs, and the annual neighborhood picnic in August takes place here. In the wintertime on the westside kids sled down the sleep slopes of the neighborhood while many adults hang off ladders trying to create the biggest and brightest holiday display each year. Teenagers deliver newspapers on skateboards at 5 am and later on, others walk to the MeadowView Village Shopping Center for drop-in classes at the coffee house or for sushi, pizza, or pasta take-out.

Meadowview is a wonderful neighborhood to call home.
