Moorland was incorporated as a Sixth-class city on december 3, 1959, when Jefferson Circuit Court's Second Division Chancery Court granted the petition to incorporate (case number C45415). One hundred and thirty-six residents petitioned to establish our city. Notice of the petition was published in The Louisville Times newspaper on October 28th and 29th 1959.

The City of Moorland was originally designed to have six house models titled the Brentmoor, Somerset, Moorland, Maywood, Ashland and Scott. There were a total of eleven house designs. The original price of the homes ranged from $13,800 to $15,500.
The architects were Edward W. Augustus and John Doumas. The builders were Barnett M. Grimes and Charles E. Conry.
All homes originally included G.E. ovens, ranges, clothes washer and dryer, natural birch cabinets and hardwood floors
