In April, 1936, Mr. James I. Jackson, a far-sighted and civic minded resident of Morgan Park called together a small group of friends and neighbors who assembled at his home. he explained to them the importance of a civic organization which could act as a representative medium for all the citizens of Morgan Park. Mr. Jackson stressed the necessity of an active, alert organization which might serve to promote the social, physical and cultural advancement of the community. As a result of this meeting, the Morgan Park Civic League was born.
Programs included improving neighborhood interest and pride, youth activities and governmental services. Many advancements were accomplished, including street lighting, railroad crossings, zoning regulations, and Ada Park.
MPCL a State of Illinois Chartered Corporation, still serves the community and has joined with other neighborhood organizations and elected officials in supporting common goals to maintain and renovate this neighborhood.
