What to do about the noise...

Posted in: Cobblestone Village
When I moved into this complex, I was unaware that I was moving next door to party central. I have been able to tell my neighbors nicely in the past to turn down the radio (which they do with hestitation, explaining that I should just ''train'' my three year old to sleep through the walls vibrating!) However, just recently there was an incident of domestic violence in which we had to call the cops in fear of their safety. There is a definate sense of tension since the incident. Now it seems that my walls are always vibrating with loud music and they can't seem to answer the door, even when I'm banging as loud as I possibly can. I'm at my wits end!! I feel that I have been more than a respectful neighbor, but the gesture has NOT been reciprocated. If I call the cops, I'm afraid that the already strained relationship will turn violent. Should I really feel this way in my own home?? Suggestions would be great as I am at a complete loss...

I think that this complex is suffering due to a sever lack of respect by the neighborhood. But, at the same time, petty threats from the HOA don't do any good. Perhaps the message needs to be harsh and fines need to be enforced quickly.

  • Respect-O-Meter: Valued Neighbor

I realize this post is 3 years old but felt compelled to agree. I am fortunate that I have respectful neighbors to either side of me but feel the same disdain for the respect our neighbors have for our community. I am for taking tougher action. In your case, I would be willing to bet your neighbors are renters. I would see about finding the owner and dealing with them. It is a shame we live in a neighborhood where we fear our neighbors. We need to find a way to inspire a better sense of community and pride for our home. I for one am going to start participating in our HOA meetings.
