Spring is a time of rejuvenation and growth. Shed your winter coat, lighten your clothes and think of spring as a time to shed old ideas and old patterns of behavior. Open your heart and mind to new ideas and open your body to new ways of working out. Here are a few ideas to help make exercise fun and enjoyable and for you to feel like a success.
Compliment yourself. Before you even start, thank yourself for thinking positive. Remember: you should exercise to love and nourish your body, not to punish it.
Set small, realistic goals. Set a goal that you know you can realistically achieve. Often with each change of season we feel rushed to do the things we didn?’t do during the last season. We make unrealistic goals to make up for our perception of our laziness.
Stretch. Think of opening and elongating your body.
Walk. New York is such a great walking town and spring is a great time to walk. When you walk around Murray Hill you will most likely be able to see (or smell) tulips, crocus, hyacinth, daffodils, crabapple trees, cherry trees and magnolias.
Ride a bicycle. Bicycles can be easily rented at bike stores and in parks all over the city. They are fun and can bring out the child in you. You don?’t have to be a racer to enjoy the ride.
Play golf. There are many courses to choose from as well as beginner and miniature golf courses.
Remember: whatever you decide to do, start slowly and work your way up. Throw off your heavy winter coat, take a deep breath and start moving!
