Kicking off this annual series on Friday evening March 22, the author Lewis M. Weinstein will discuss his recently published historical novel, The Heretic. The book, set in 15th-century Spain, involves the conversos (Marranos) who achieved high levels of national political success while secretly practicing Judaism and running a Hebrew printing enterprise with the aid of Johann Gutenberg. Other characters include inquisitor Torquemada, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. The event is free, open to the public and follows a short Sabbath Service that begins at 8 pm.
The second speaker in this series will be Congressman Jerrold Nadler?—Friday, April 20?—who will discuss the historical novel, As A Driven Leaf, by Rabbi Milton Steinberg, and describe how it influenced his life.
