Northeast Colorado Springs Neighborhood Association

Development of SW corner of Austin/Research

New Development proposed

Friends:

Just to let you know that a significantly new development proposal has been sent in to City Planning without calling for a meeting of affected neighbors.

The area is where the Veterinary Clinic and the two medical office buildings were proposed by Rick Lowendowski of RL Development in Feb 2000. Rick passed away a year ago and his family is continuing the business. The only thing is that things have changed significantly regarding the layout of the parcel.

If you received the letter, you need to see the differences in the original proposal--that the neighborhood and the association approved--and that which is proposed now.

I, for one, have a serious objection to the two-story building proposed for the corner of Research and Austin Bluffs. It was always my desire to retain the view that I had to the South, and a two-story building would block it. Also, the two main medical office buildings are quite a bit larger than the original rendering shows: over 70000 sq ft each. The originals were shown to be about 35000 each, if scale is to be believed.

Also, there was a bridge proposed to cross the concrete drainage ditch that does not appear on the new drawings.

I am sending my objections to Quinn Peitz, Chief of City Planning, because I do not have Larry Larson's email address. Quinn's address is: qpeitz@ci.colospgs.co.us
