WALKING...
Helps to Improve the efficiency of the heart muscle and aids blood to flow faster and freer around the body. A strong, healthy heart means no heart attacks. Regular walking also helps to fight other killer diseases such as diabetes and certain cancers as well as debilitating conditions such as osteoarthritis, and it also supports the immune system.
WALKING AND STRESS
Walking Seems To Improve Mood And Reduce Stress
Walking provides emotional benefits, too. Studies indicate walking seems to improve mood and reduce stress.
WALKING AND DIABETES
A diabetes prevention study of more than 3,000 patients with impaired glucose tolerance (a pre-diabetes condition) shows that those who walked or exercised five times a week for 30 minutes lost between 5 and 7 percent of their body weight and reduced their risk of diabetes by 58 percent. Those over age 60 reduced their risk of diabetes by 71 percent, a result not matched by any drug used in the study.
LOW IMPACT EXERCISE
Walking offers the benefit of aerobics but without the bone-jarring impact of jogging or running.
OUTDOOR AIR AND SCENERY
On a walk you get to look at surroundings that are interesting and varying. You get a chance to move outdoors and breathe the air provided by Mother Nature.
SOCIALIZATION VS ISOLATION
Seniors Come In Various Ages
In the walking club, you may walk with people in our own age bracket or you can mix and mingle with ?“baby boomers?” and ?“super seniors?”, benefiting from the different perspectives they offer.
Through the Walking Club, you can meet new people but you can also just join your current pals in periodic walks, three [or more] times per week. Walkers participate in designing their own walking paths where pre-existing ones are not in place.
WALK WITH THE GROUP, OR A PAL
On those days when you choose not to walk and socialize with the group, you may pair up with just one person or two. You and your walking partner[s] may also choose alternate walk times.
