North Los Robles Ave. was long one of Pasadena's prime residential streets. The red car used to go up No. Los Robles to Washington St, then it turned East to join the line up Lake. This made the street very convenient to the Pasadena business district. Partly due to this, the street had a high concentration of local Pasadena businessmen. The lots on this street were almost all oversized, some 300 feet deep or more. The street contains some very fine architecture with styles including Victorian, American Shingle Style, Craftsman, and the colonial revival styles of the 1920's. The last large single family residence built on the street is on the NE corner of Washington and was built in 1925. Some attractive quadruplex and bungalow court apartments were built after this date, many of them replacing very large Victorian mansions built in the 1880's. The oldest house originally built on the street and still standing is at 1240, built circa 1896.
