The Southern Nevada Health District needs your help to stop illegal dumping activity in Clark County. The improper disposal of solid and hazardous waste can potentially harm our water and air quality, create unhealthful conditions, and diminish beauty and enjoyment of our environment. Illegally dumped debris on or near your property may also diminish your property value and attract other illegal dumping activity. Let’s work together to protect our environment and STOP illegal dumping now!
Illegal dumping is the improper and/or unauthorized disposal of solid waste, including household garbage, construction debris, furniture, yard waste, concrete, used motor oil, waste tires, dirt and rocks, etc., at locations not designated for such a purpose. These items can be legally disposed of or recycled, either at curbside collection or at numerous authorized facilities. Residential customers of Republic Services of Southern Nevada (RSSN) can also dispose of waste at one of RSSN’s transfer stations for FREE. To report illegal dumping activity, you should conduct the following activities:
1. Never confront the alleged illegal dumper or put yourself in harm’s way.
2. You must eyewitness the alleged illegal dumping activity to be eligible to receive a reward.
3. Record the type of solid waste that was discarded improperly.
4. Record the date, time, and place of the alleged illegal dumping incident.
5. Record the license plate number and description of the vehicle driven by the suspect(s).
6. Record the physical description of the suspect(s).
7. If possible, take a photograph or video of the alleged illegal dumping activity.
Report all of the above information to the Southern Nevada Health District at (702) 759-0600 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or (702) 759-1000 during non-business hours. You may also submit illegal dumping complaints online at: www.southernnevadahealthdistrict.org/complaint.
You will be asked to fill out a sworn statement detailing the above-mentioned information. You will also be asked to testify in a hearing as a witness, if necessary.
If the alleged suspect is found in violation of Solid Waste Management Regulations, a penalty of not less than $500 and no more than $5,000 for a first offense may be assessed by the Administrative Hearing Officer. You may receive a reward of $100 for reporting information leading to a finding of violation, upon full payment of the penalty.
