Neighborhood Academy

East Montclair-Lowry NA

The Institute of Cultural Affairs (www.ica-usa.org) has established a partnership with Rocky Mountain Mutual Housing Association to provide the Neighborhood Academy training program for community members living within the Lowry and East Montclair Neighborhood Association boundaries. We are hoping to attract 25 community members for each training program living in Lowry and East Montclair who have an interest in community development issues and enhancing leadership skills. In addition, we are aiming for approximately half of the participants to be between the ages of 15-25 (young emerging leaders) and the other half to be older adults.

The Neighborhood Academy is an intensive leadership and skill-development program for youth and adult teams who want to make positive, permanent changes where they live.

The program involves 12 classes covering the following:

• Discussion Methods
  
• Action Planning for Community Events
  
• Neighborhood Resource Mapping
  
• Community Development
  
• Local Economic Development
  
• Local Social, Cultural and Political Development

Rocky Mountain Mutual Housing Association owns and manages the Garden Court and Heritage Estates Mutual Housing properties located between Syracuse St. and Verbena Park and between 11th and 12th Avenues.
