In the 1970’s, 26 Neighborhood Planning Units (NPUs) were established to allow citizens of Atlanta to provide input to the city on various matters including: zoning, housing, community facilities, human resources, social and recreational programs, traffic and transportation, environmental quality, open spaces and parks, prioritizing neighborhood needs, and making recommendations on how our tax dollars should be spent for neighborhood improvements. Although many groups provide input to the Mayor, the City Council, and other departments of the city, NPUs are the only groups officially designated by the city to provide input on what we want and what we don’t want in our community.
NPU-O includes Kirkwood, East Lake, the Villages of East Lake (formerly East Lake Meadows) and Edgewood. Everyone who lives within the NPU over 18 years of age or who owns or operates a business within the NPU is a member of the NPU and is invited to join other members on providing their input to the city.
NPU-O meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month (except December when no meeting is held) at 7:30 p.m. at the Senior Center at 25 Warren Street (corner of Boulevard and Warren). All residents of NPU-O are invited and encouraged to participate.
