The mission of the Northwest Neighborhood Association is to help create a healthy, safe and vibrant community in which to live and work. The association will support business development, promote attractive, pleasant neighborhoods, encourage a sense of community, work in partnership with law enforcement and city government, and strive to improve our neighborhood identity.
As one of the eleven neighborhood associations in the City of Citrus Heights, we are a member of the Residents' Empowerment Association of Citrus Heights (REACH). REACH is a non-profit corporation established to encompass the neighborhood associations and act as a cohesive body through which all the associations can work. REACH receives information from the City of Citrus Heights for dissemination to the associations and subsequently on to the residents of each area. Likewise, REACH, like the neighborhood associations, is a forum in which neighbors can bring concerns to the City.
The NNA was organized approximately three years ago by concerned citizens in Area One. In the beginning, the meetings were held in the home of one of the board members. Today, we meet in the conference room at the Round Table Pizza on Lichen on the first Tuesday of each month.
Our past board has included people like former association President, Alicia Blanco, who is responsible for bringing the Healthy Cities Grant to the City of Citrus Heights. Year 2000 President, Steve Sturgis, was instrumental in focusing attention on the upgrade of Westwood Park, organizing a park clean-up and tree planting event in early 2000. Former member, Bret Daniels, is currently seated as a member of the Citrus Heights City Council.
Our current board consists of a few members who were involved during 2000 and some new members as well. John Taylor, 2001 President, is also the Vice-President for the Neighborhood Accountability Board. John has a strong committment to family and community and will help to continue the success of the NNA.
John's wife, Laura Taylor, is the Secretary for 2001 and served as Public Information Officer in 2000. In addition, Mrs. Taylor, a freelance writer and graphic artist, publishes "Our Neighborhood Newsletter" for the association. She is the designer of the NNA's logo and is the driving force behind building a positive image for our association and our neighborhood.
Vice-President Tonya Wagner, now in her second term, has been a major contributor to the success of our Annual Picnic in the Park. Tonya is also the Secretary of the Neighborhood Accountability Board.
Our REACH Representative, Ron Allen, is now seated on our board for a second term as well and in his second term as REACH representative. Ron is an attorney by trade and helps by applying his expertise to matters of concern to the association.
Treasurer, Bobbie Knapp, rounds out our returning board members, now in her second year of service. Bobbie has done an outstanding job of obtaining sponsors and donations for our Annual Picnic in the Park.
The remainder of our Board Members are Members at Large Llisa Matsubu, Kimberly Caro, and Mike Harbove. They are all new members to the NNA and the board, but already they are making their contributions to the success of our neighborhood.
