This is the time when we clean out all of the accumulated stuff in and around our homes. We can get involved in our communities during the neighborhood clean up days to help clean up the common areas of our neighborhood too! Here are some ways to get involved:
If you live in Columbus, your contact is the Neighborhood Pride Liaison. To find out who your liaison is, contact the Neighborhood Pride Office at 614.645.0837.
If you live in a community other than Columbus, contact City Hall to see if they have a citywide clean event planned.
As most of you know, most trash can be disposed of by the curbside pick ups. Some of the items that are considered hazardous household waste must be disposed of in other ways. If you have any of these items, the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) has set up collection sites throughout the community. To find out where a collection site is in your area and the kinds of things they will accept go to their website www.swaco.org or call 898.2480.
Another program that you should know about is the West Nile Virus Task Force. It is a collaboration of county, city and state agencies under the leadership of the Columbus Health Department, Environmental Health Services. It was created to inform and help prevent the outbreak of the West Nile Virus in Central Ohio. To get more information about West Nile, contact the website at www.cmhhealth.org. After June 1, there will be a Hotline manned daily from 7am ?– 4:30 pm. The phone number is 614.645.BITE (2483)
