We are the residents of Millis and neighboring towns. We are an organized group interested in creating a happy, healthy and productive community to live in.
In the spring of 1975, 18 Millis women met out of a common concern for what they perceived as a void in the civic, cultural and social environment in the community. A formal organization meeting was held in May of 1975. Temporary officers were elected and a By-laws Committee was formed.
These original 18 members held their Charter meeting in June 1975 and decided on the name Oak Tree League. The oak tree is virtually synonymous with Millis. The home of Lansing Millis, for whom the town is named, was called Oak Grove Farm, and the oak tree is also the symbol on the town seal.
When the first program year began in September of 1975 there were 25 members. We continue to grow each year with more members and more ideas. The League began with three operational divisions: Civic, Cultural and Social each headed by a director. We now also include Membership, League Communications and Community Relations directors who also sit on the Executive Board with the former as well as the President, Vice President Secretary and Treasurer.
