Nestled within the boundaries of the Old Fort Lowell Neighborhood is the Fort Lowell Historic District. It is both an honor and a responsibility to preserve the character of an area, encourage an awareness of it's heritage and provide for appropriate development, while also preserving property values.
The Fort Lowell Historic District is listed as one of 16 such districts registered within the City of Tucson. All plans involving construction, additions , color changes or demolition must be presented to and approved by the Board of Directors of the Historic District(325-6907), The Tucson-Pima County Historical Commission and the City of Tucson Planning Department(791-4571) (in that order) before permits can be obtained for work to begin.
The Fort Lowell Historic District Advisory Board (FLDHAB) works to preserve the special ambiance of this historic part of the neighborhood for all, those presently living here, our visitors, and the generations to come. Each of Tucson's 16 historic districts has a Board of Directors. The FLHDAB consists of nine members, of whom three must live within the district, three must own property within the district and three must be relevant experts. Open meetings are held monthly at the San Pedro Chapel adobe house at 6:30 on the 3rd Monday of each month. The agenda is posed on the San Pedro Chapel bulletin board (at the entrance to the complex).
