Welcome to Historic Overlook Colony!

The Overlook Colony's houses were built in 1916, for the General Chemical's company employee housing. But are now privately owned. Rumor has it, that this was one of the first planned development in the State of Delaware. The renowned Architect was John Nolan of Cambridge Massachusetts,a city planner and American landscape architecture.,

Nolen enlisted Architect H. Errol Coffin of New York City for the design of the buildings. The overall design of Overlook Colony was inspired by English Garden villages with Tudor Revival cottages, which were constructed in rows along winding streets in a park-like setting. The Tudor Revival and English cottage influence of the buildings in Overlook Colony are of a typical design for industrial communities.

These homes were made of concrete, brick, and rebar, slate roofs and a beautiful view of the Delaware River. All of the 186 homes, sitting on 30 plus acres of land and built to last. In 2006 Interfaith Community Housing of Delaware, had rehabbed the Second Ave homes. And did a great job.Over 100 years old and still one of the best built homes in the State of Delaware.
