Historic Pablo Beach

Historic Pablo Beach is located within Jacksonville Beach South. It was originally settled by domestic workers and laborers serving affluent families of Ponte Vedra and McCormick Construction Company. It contains some of the oldest houses in Jacksonville Beach, then known as Pablo Beach.

Preserving Our History

The first and only school built for African-American children at the beaches was in this community-circa 1927. A four room brick structure replaced an old wooden building built around 1906.
Before that children of color were taught in the home of Mother Rodie Martin, a pioneer of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

The four room brick structure was recently saved from demolishion. Today it stands at the corner of 4th Ave & 4th ST. S. to be restored for continued service to our community.

Preparing For The Future

Today, the community formerly known as " The Hill " has become Historic Pablo Beach. Our new entryway sign proudly welcomes everyone. There is a complete make-over planned for our neighborhood. One that will preserve our rich history and make this a neighborhood of choice for future generations to come.

Our History

PRIDE began in 1995 when a few concerned neighbors began meeting to discuss the condition of our neighborhood. The only solution was to get organized and fight to save our community.

We began by writing our by-laws and articles of incorporation and submitting them to the state. In July of 1995 PRIDE received it's first certificate of incorporation from the state of Florida and 501(c)(3) non-profit status from the IRS.Now we can begin the task of reviving our neighborhood.
