Pacific Health Ministry is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing community care in the State of Hawaii. The Interfaith Health Ministry Program focuses on providing health and spiritual services to frail and isolated people in their homes. This program has a staff of registered nurses that provide in-home assessment, health teaching, information about and referral to existing health and social resources. For clients who might benefit from having a friendly visitor, the nurse identifies, trains, matches and supervises volunteers from local churches and temples to serve the clients. The program welcomes volunteers and referrals for services. Call 808-843-8198 for further information. Presently, we serve East,Central and Windward areas of Oahu and hope to expand the program as more resources become available. There is no service fee to the client.
Pacific Health Ministry is the only fully accredited institution in Hawaii by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE). Because of the unique multi-cultural enviroment and high quality reputation of our training center, each year, approximately 30 ministers or seminarians are selected to receive instruction and serve as resident Chaplains in the hospitals/institutions with whom Pacific Health Ministry contracts, assisting in ministering to the patients, their families, as well as, hospital/institution staff. Qualifications for Clinical Pastoral Education include Seminarians preparing for ministry, persons meeting ordination requirements, persons exploring institutional ministry, and persons desiring greater exposure to crisis ministry.
Pacific Health Ministry provides a Lay Chaplaincy Program to educate volunteers to provide a very important service by visiting those who are sick, in pain, suffering, dying and grieving. This training is facilitated by a Pacific Health Ministry Chaplain and focuses on preparing lay people for institutional visitation. There is no fee for this training. We seek people who are ready to commit two to four hours a week in one of the related facilities for six months.
