In 1995, Mrs. Gwendolyn Brown-Johnson and her husband Mr. Artis Johnson formed Parkview Neighborhood Association in their garage.
To this end, attendance grew,Temple Baptist Church agreed to allow the association to use their facilty for it's first meeting. Finally, meetings were moved to a neighborhood house, affectionally called "The Pink House." Meanwhile, Mrs. Brown-Johnson continued to work to gather support from city government and this plea for support continues today.
Therefore, through diligent work and long hours, Parkview Neighborhood Association has become an award winning program dedicated to improving the neighborhood through planned progams to benefit all of it's residents.
1. To work with the city government to improve the neighborhood.
2. Increase home ownership
3. Improve academic achievement of children living in the neighborhood.
As a result of this community effort of both police and residents, a Boys and Girls club was formed to provide wholesome, structured activities for neighborhood children. A tutoring program was also formed. The children of this center are award winners today.
