About Us

We are a not-for-profit animal shelter/rescue society in Yukon, Oklahoma -- just minutes west of Oklahoma City. Our organization began as a therapy dog group back in 1990, and has since grown and grown and grown in size. We adopt out app. 50 to 70 dogs and cats a week, and -- since 1990 -- have adopted out OVER 30,000 ANIMALS to good homes. We also boast the state's only Dog Park/Agility Course, and we have free obedience and agility courses open to all those who adopt from us. We often adopt through adoption fairs (e.g., Petsmart, Garden Ridge, etc.); however, most of our adoptions are handled at the shelter itself. We also do quite a bit of spay/neuter work -- this is often one of the hardest parts, especially in a state in which so many people continue to avoid the responsibility of spaying and neutering in the first place.

It's Tough Sometimes

Pets & People is the last line of defense for many dogs and cats in the Oklahoma City area and beyond. One small, dedicated band of volunteers has proven what can be accomplished with big hearts, hard work and small pocket books. Our only tangible reward may be a lick or two from a rescued animal and our joy is mixed with sadness as we see our rescues go proudly out the door. In most cases, only the animals and we know just how difficult the road has been, and just how many of our friends never have the chance we gave to others.

Naturally, your tax-deductible donation is always appreciated. Nevertheless, we can also use thrift shop donations, pet food donations, pet supply donations (yes, ''used'' things are OK), and donations of time and energy.
