Welcome Home

Turning east onto 47th Avenue off of busy 4th Street North you drive past the Racquet Club and spot the sign - 'PLACIDO BAYOU'. Past the security gate you slow down and enjoy the canopy of trees along the entrance, the egrets in the island, and smile at the procession of ducks when you stop at the four-way intersection. This is Placido Bayou.

Living in Placido Bayou

Our ten retention ponds are our "lakes". The largest is Lake Placido at 13.30 acres and the smallest, at .5 acre, is Lake Cypress. Although the function of our lakes is to provide drainage for our community, they are surely the centerpiece of our neighborhood.

While providing a lovely setting for all of our human residents, the lakes also provide a home for various wildlife. We have several varieties of birds, including Muscovey and Mallard ducks, egrets, herons, woodstorks, and brown pelicans, to name but a few. One can often see turtles sunning on the banks along with an occasional alligator. We're especially fond of our two swans who have made Placido Bayou home for over ten years.

Along the entrance road there are ten acres of preserves. This area also abounds in wildlife including poisonous snakes. For the past few years bald eagles have nested in the preserves and raised their young, as have osprey.
