A neighbor who has lived in Platt Park since 1924, tells us that many of our blocks were developed one lot per block per designated period of time (i.e., often one lot per year on each block), in order ?“that all the houses would be different, such that our neighborhood is a unique mix of different homes.?” Thanks for reminding us of what we may take for granted!
Due to the ?“building boom?” of the 1920s, most of the area is dominated by Arts & Crafts-style homes with open front porches, front & back garden areas, & detached (if any) garages. The philosophy of this architectural and lifestyle movement based itself on linking the home & the landscape, the family & the community, and even the adjoining rooms of a dwelling, which tend to open into a central dining/hearth area (as the gathering center of the home).
