   AP doesn't do that.

Now there is an absolute if I ever saw one! The AP does not mispell words or names?

President's names.   I'll concede they do if you give me some examples.

Mal:  Do a bit more thinking on this one, OK?

All snopes says is that the original AP version didn't mention Obumbler's birth.  BUT:  The original story that appeared in the East African Standard did!  It is common for local papers to take the AP feed and write their own headlines and leads.  It's obvious the East African Standard mentioned Obumbler's birth site as Kenya as that was important to them.  It wasn't important to AP for that particular story back in 2004.

In addition, you can trust Snopes as much as you can trust any internet source, I guess.  And I'm sure libs will put their trust in any source that publishes something they can twist and spin to their advantage.

But don't get off track on this one.  It all comes down to the fact that the Kenyan birth was important to the East African newspaper in 2004, but wasn't important or even maybe known to the author of the original AP feed.

By the way, the original (and all subsequent copies) of the East African Standard news story contained the mention of the Kenyan birth.  You cannot find a legitimate copy of the East African Standard story that does not mention it.   The story that did not include it was the original AP feed.

And, no, some nefarious wacko did not "slip it in" after the fact, unless you believe the East African Standard author back in 2004 was that wacko.
