Once upon a time, a former World War II flying ace decided that this secluded part of Cabarrus County was the perfect place to come in for a landing.
So he carved a strip out of the nearby woods and proceeded to hone his stunt flying skills. Undoubtedly, all the animals in the forest scurried for cover as this man named Porter buzzed the treetops in his replica biplane.
But with the passage of time, quiet has returned. The treetops are rustled only by the occasional breeze. A variety of birds and even a flock of geese have reclaimed the skies while mature ash, oak, maple, pine and family trees have reclaimed the forest floor.
The animals now live in perfect harmony with the neighborhood residents. Of course, you'll understand why the squirrels might run for cover when you start the lawnmower.
