Preston Citadel is a neighborhood defined by Preston Road to the West, LBJ Freeway (I-635) to the North, Churchill Way to the South, and Hillcrest Road to the East.
The first homes were built in the late 1940's and early 1950's, many of which remain today. Original homes are in the 1200 - 1600 square-foot size. Compared to most Dallas properties, home lots tend to be rather large, ranging in size from approximately 1/3 acre to well over 1 acre.
A leg of White Rock Creek runs through the neighborhood which is filled with mature trees and landscaping.
Churchill Way is the home of several churches, synagogues, and private schools, as well as the world-renowned Cooper Fitness Center. Preston Road is the home of office parks, a retirement community, and a shoping center, among others. Along LBJ Freeway (I-635), one will find a number of office parks, an apartment community, and many independent businesses. Hillcrest Road hosts additional office parks on the northern end, and residential properties, including the prestigious "Downs" community as one nears Churchill Way.
The neighborhod is conveniently located with an abundance of nearby shoping centers and malls, restaurants and entertainment, and excellent schools (both public and private). Its prime location offers easy access to major thoroughfares, and its central location makes travel easy and quick to any destination.
In recent years, many have found the bountiful amenities offered by Preston Citadel to be very attractive, and the neighborhod is seeing somewhat of an "evolution," as many of the original homes are razed and large new homes are built.
The recent "growth spurt" is bringing young families into the neighborhood, and Preston Citadel, with its strong neighborhood association, stands poised to greet the new millenium as a premier Dallas neighborhod.
Welcome!
The Preston Citadel Club was founded in 1952 with a membership of twenty-five people who resided on the three original streets in the area: Churchill Way, Turner Way, and Dykes Way. The Club's primary object is to foster neighborliness and to stimulate interest in general civic improvement.
Today the membership has multiplied, and the Citadel area now encompasses the area bounded by LBJ Freeway, Hillcrest Rd., Churchill Way and Preston Road (approx. 300 homes). The Club has both a Day Group and an Evening Group, which allows a greater number of people to participate in the association.
The Citadel Club undertakes projects that are of special interest to the people of this area. The day group, along with the Melshire Garden Club, helped beautify our area with the crepe myrtle trees that are planted along Preston Road. The Club had an active voice in preventing the City of Dallas from changing the zoning laws in our area to allow multiple resident complexes. The association organized the Neighborhood Crimewatch in our area and purchased the Crime Alert signs which are posted after an incident occurs. The Club also maintains the Crimewatch voice mail system for our area. During the holidays, the day group gives donations to various charitable organizations and needy families.
The Preston Citadel Club has enabled people to meet and form friendships with their neighbors for nearly 50 years. The Club's programs are designed to entertain, inform, and help us learn more about ourselves, our neighborhood, our community, and our society.
The Evening Group was organized in February 2000 and holds meetings at 7 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of the months of January, March, May, September, and November (we take the summer off!)
Various special-interest groups have formed, through the Citadel Club, to serve the interests of our neighborhood regarding zoning and traffic issues, area parks improvement, and liasion with area schools, businesses, and places of worship. Other special-interest groups that are currently organizing will focus on everything from neighborhood beautification to social events to fundraising to business networking to children's play groups.
Annual dues allow membership to BOTH day and evening group activities and events, and full voting priviledges. "Friends of Citadel" memberships allow homeowners of adjacent neighborhoods who share our interests to enjoy and benefit from our meetings and many other neighborhood events such as our annual Labor Day picnic and Fourth of July Parade.
Membership entitles homeowners to be included on our (optional) e-mail system, which provides timely reminders about recycling and bulk trash collection days, crime alerts, lost & found notices, lost/found pet alerts, meeting and event reminders, and other beneficial services.
