Over 100 people met August 11 to educate ourselves on what historic designation would do for East Washington Park. Would it help us grow our neighborhood without loosing its "prevailing character"? Would it help us not stop change, but rather manage it? Would it help us maintain the equity in our homes? Would it allow our homes to expand in ways that respect the existing character of the neighborhood - both its brick and mortar and its neighborliness?
A panel of experts focused on what historic designation does for a neighborhood. Since there has not been a decision to attempt to become a historic district, the panel did not focus on the process of getting designated. After the panel presentations, there was a question and answer period.
