Fantastic News! We have received an award for the second level research grant from the State Historical Fund to be conducted this Spring in the East Washington Park neighborhood area. Given the results of the first survey reconnaissance, the follow-up grant allows for a greater in-depth analysis of whether structures are contributing to the historical district and the resulting ateas of greatest density which would be logical for the proposed district. Each contributing resource will be identified according to original ownership, later owners, architect, building permit, architectural style, history of any additions on record and any other identifying or unique characteristics. Our histories will be revealed! Historic designation is moving along on schedule.
The Park itself (Washington Park), has received funds wihting this grant so that the Park District can research original landscape designs and original park usage. Their funding match will be 100%, while our match well be 25%. So get your beer pouring arms ready. The end result of this grant will be for the park district to determine independaently if they want to pursue historic designation.
The committee has changed a bit during the Fall and Winter season. Terry Andres continues to be involved with PROGRESS & PRESERVATION....TOGETHER. She has become the most recent member of the Board of Directors for Historic Denver - Congratulations Terry! Terry, Barbara Blumentahal, Annette Couch and Gerard Zschoche have teamed up with Peter Bonaker and Lynn O'Neil as the new co-leaders. Lynn and Peter are enjoying working together, amazed at the amount of new informaiton to digest, but looking forward to helping complete the quest for historic designation in the East Washington Park Neighborhood.
