Trained volunteers and staff provide effective weather sealing measures for income eligable households: both owners and renters. These services include: weather stripping doors, replacing missing window glass, caulking open seams around the home, replace furnace filter and other air-sealing measures.
The Blitz service prepares the homes of low-income seniors for winter. Volunteers are trained to hang interior poly on the inside frames of windows. Team leaders assess for other needs for follow up service. (See 1st Line above)People who cannot perform this task due to physical or mental reasons will also be assisted.
Free Energy Management Workshops are dedicated to people who want to help themselves to winterize their homes. Participants learn about effective home energy management in an adult learning environment. They also receive an Energy Kit to help winterize their homes. After a demonstration of the materials each participant will receive: roll of palstic and tape, rope caulk and foam rope to seal around drafty windows and baseboards, and outlet and switch plate gaskets. These workshops are conducted throughout Jefferson County at community sites: Family Resource Centers (Jefferson County Schools), Neighborhood Places, and Community Centers.
