REACT is a campaign committed to the elimination of toxic air pollution coming from Rubbertown industry.

On September 9, 2004 Mayor Jerry Abramson held a news conference to announce the release of STAR (Strategic Toxic Air Reduction)program. It is a local air toxics plan that is to be released September 15, 2004.
Although the Mayor thanked the West Jefferson County Community Task Force (WJCCTF) and other agencies for their hard work, he failed to thank the people who have been telling local government for years that emissions from Rubbertown industry were too high. Those people are fenceline residents. Those residents who can on any given day smell chemicals right in their back yard.
Some of them are the same residents that the Mayor told the plan would be released in ''30 to 60 days''. That was in February.
There will be two comment periods coming up once the plan is released. EVERY household should read the plan and provide comment. This is our chance to influence decision making in our community.
REACT will hold meetings to help other residents through the process. Call us at 368-3387 or 551-4734 if you want to be a part of changing our community for the best.
Documentation is the only way to expose those who posion us and those who are supposed to protect us.
We have the power to change the way our community is treated. We must document odors.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), odors could be an indication that there has been a toxic chemical release. Although not all releases result in immediate death, releases over a long period of time can affect your health.
The Air Pollution Control District is the Metro Louisville Agency responsible for investigating odor complaints.
Contact REACT for more information on how to report an odor.
