Post Office

Posted in: Cherry Avenue

The closing of over 200 main post offices announced this week including the CherryBell main Tucson Post Office was a sad one.

I see in the news that the Postal Service has agreed to stay off the closings until May of next year in an attempt to get the Feds to interject government monies into the service.

I do not want to see more of the United States Citizens put out of work but as the Postmaster General says, The Internet has put a big damper on the sending of first and second class mail in the last three years.

I for one being retired an willing and looking forward to delivery's on Saturdays suspended as all I get are Bills and trash mail.

Incidentally the trash advertisement mail that we get when we do not subscribe to a newspaper adds more than 70 per cent of the Mails income.

I am thinking that since you have to pass the Civil Service test in order to work for the Post Office that the Government should not treat it like a private company.

Hopefully if we get out of all these countries we are fighting with we will have a lot more monies for things in the Great Country.

In the coming days we will see just how important the Government thanks the Post Office really is.

My feelings are if the Post Office does not make it and they close the Tucson distribution center and it takes an added week to get mail from the center in Phoenix to Tucson even though you are sending a card across the street maybe a private company like Fedex or UPS etc. will jump in and be given permission to deliver the mail to our boxes.

What are your thoughts?
