Gravel Pit(west of I-25)
There is currently an 11 acres gravel mine at the west end of Baptist road. The owners want to expand this to 65 acres. The matter was heard by the El Paso Planning Commission on July 20th. The outcome is unkown at this time.
The pros and cons were discussed as follows:
Pro-With revegitation it would be somewhat green and stay out of the hands of home developers.
Con-Large scar for several years until revegitation occurs.
The voting area for this increase will be a portion of Glen Eagle, Jackson Creek and the North side of Baptist in The Ridge at Foxrun.
We discussed whether we would benefit from the widening and came to the conclusion that we would like it voted down.
Reasons:
The long term plan for Baptist road has it connecting with Hwy 83. Needless to say this would greatly affect traffic through our neighborhood as well as take land away from those homes which are backed up to Baptist. Baptist is scheduled to be four lanes. We determined we would rather deal with more traffic to get to the freeway than to be faced with a busy street through our neighborhood.
The trails were discussed however no solutions were evident. There are varying opinions from many homeowners. Each individual lot has different characteristics which causes problems with the trail system.
Drainage has been coming along slowly and is getting attention from the developer,Joe Gassner & Don Smith, however the home builders still are not protecting their lots from massive silt deposits.
We are attempting to hire a mediator and have all home builders, Developer, County rep and the Homeowners association present to discuss possible solutions to both the drainage and the trails. We are requesting this meeting prior to our annual September meeting.
In regards to the Island on the Cul-de-sacs. It was determined that the homes on the cul-de-sacs should take care of their respective Islands. It was mentioned that the developer would grant some funds for initial landscaping which will allow some individuality. For more information on this contact Steve Waldeman at huskerco@efortress.com.
