RecycleWorks!

Earn Grant $$$ for Your Neighborhood

RecycleWorks! is a volunteer group of Homeowner Association members that earn grant dollars for their neighborhood associations by working directly with the City Recycling Program Coordinator to promote waste reduction and recycling at home, at school, at work and at play.

Neighborhoods may appoint one resident or a group of interested residents to serve as the representative, or interested residents may volunteer independently to earn dollars for the HOA under the Recycling Incentive Grant (RIG).

Recycling Incentive Grant

Review of Recycling Incentive Award Criteria - 2008
These are the new guidelines for the Recycling Incentive Award program that will run from October 1, 2007 to October 1, 2008.

All activities should be documented by keeping a diary of events you participated in, keeping samples of newsletter, flyers, etc and taking pictures, which will be submitted in October along with the Incentive Award Application. Applications will be evaluated and awarded points, and the points will be translated into cash awards based on recycling revenue divided by total tons generated for the year. These awards can amount to well over one thousand dollars to a neighborhood that actively participates in all Recycle Corps events. The activities are listed in order of priorities.

1a. Participation in Special Events - (This list is subject to change.) 1 point per person/shift=2 or 3 hours depending on event. Please list events in application with total names and points earned for event.

Riverwalk Jazz Brunch - 1st Sunday of each month
Earth Day - Month of April- TBA
Starlight Festivals - June/July/August
America Recycles Day - November 15

Assist with events by helping staff at special events, information tables and with recycling operations and activities. Multiple shifts may be served.

1b. Participation in, or sponsorship of other Neighborhood/Local Projects and Programs- 1 point per event. See Additional Neighborhood Event Criteria
Neighborhoods can get points for projects, events, and activities in their own neighborhood. Recycling at your neighborhood meetings, street parties, any activities in which your neighborhood participates is very important: where and whenever trash is generated, there may be an opportunity to recycle. Placing/monitoring recycling bins, distributing information and having recycling education activities will increase recycling awareness.

2. Attendance at Recycle Corps Meetings. (1-6)
Meetings are normally held every other month (Nov, Jan, Mar, May, July, Sept), at City of Fort Lauderdale Compound (call for address - 954-828-5577). Attendance by a resident of your neighborhood (usually the Recycle Corps representative) will result in an incentive award of one point per meeting, for a total of six.

3. Number of Articles in Neighborhood Newsletters. (1 to 10)
NEW! If your newsletter is printed on 100% recycled paper, chlorine-free, and newsletter includes text acknowledging this information, you will be given all 5 points automatically. Those neighborhoods that publish newsletters on a regular basis are encouraged to include articles concerning recycling information and/or events. Stories must include recycling, waste reduction, buying recycled, green building with recycled products, or similar,eg stories about garbage, HHW, do not count.) From one to five incentive award points are given based on the number and quality of these published items. Points will be given for using graphics, color and other presentations that make the message “reader friendly.” (Previously, points were given for announcements, which should be standard by now. 2007 goals encourage the extra effort required for stories and articles.)

4. GOT PAPER? Hungry Green Dumpster Project. – 4 points
The neighborhood can earn 2 incentive points by locating a business partner in the community that will pay $200 to sponsor a particular school: the money covers the contractor cost to locate the dumpster at the school and to pay for a promotional banner service. If assist is given to help promote the program in the community, an additional 2 points can be earned.

Facilitating this arrangement will save money for the City and makes it possible to pass a share of this savings back to the HOA’s in the form of incentive grant dollars.
