Update on Former Trash Transfer Station

Site Rehabilitation Plan

The City of Fort Lauderdale has received approval from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to proceed with the third phase of a site rehabilitation plan for the area surrounding the former trash transfer station property located at 1901 N.W. 6th Street (northwest corner of Sistrunk Boulevard and N.W. 19th Avenue).

Site preparation activities will begin on May 16, 2008 and work is expected to start on May 21. The remediation will involve removing two feet of soil in public right-of-ways on the west side of N.W. 19th Avenue between N.W. 6th and 7th Streets and along the north and south sides of N.W. 7th Street between N.W. 19th and 20th Avenues. A limited number of soil samples in these public right-of-way areas contained elevated levels of contaminants. The soil from the affected areas will be removed and transported to a lined landfill for disposal. The soil will be replaced with a geotextile cover, clean fill and new sod. The work is expected to be completed within 30 days.

Former Trash Transfer Station Site Assessment Report

Evans Environmental & Geosciences, LLC was retained by the City of Fort Lauderdale to prepare the following Site Assessment Report Addendum II and Site Rehabilitation Plan for the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Former Trash Transfer Station property, located at 1901 NW 6th Street (the northwest corner of Sistrunk Boulevard and NW 19th Avenue). The objective of this report was to provide a response to the October 18, 2007 correspondence issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, provide a summary of the expanded site assessment activities in surrounding residential neighborhoods to the north and east, and to reiterate the previously proposed Site Rehabilitation Plan for the property and surrounding area.
