 RCA Meetings:

Due to the COVID-19 virus, and in the interest of safety and concern for our community, regular Civic Association meetings have been cancelled beginning with the March 17, 2020 scheduled meeting.

We are currently considering safe ways to resume meetings and are in discussions with Gallaher Elementary School and Delaware Technical CC Stanton Campus personnel regarding use of their facilities for future meetings.  We are finding that the rules for use of the school are not fully developed or understood and would likely require the association to pay to clean and sanitize the used area after the meetings.

As an option to in-person meetings, we are considering meeting virtually via ZOOM meetings. Give us your opinion.

We will notify the community of the next meeting date, time, and method (virtual or in-person), through the NewsFlash and the sign at the Rolling Drive entrance.

SANTA VISIT

The Santa and Friends visit on the Mill Creek Fire Company fire truck is planned for Sunday, December 20, 2020 at 5:00 pm. This year, due to the COVID virus, the fire company vehicles with Santa and friends WILL NOT be making stops for photos or distributing candy.  The fire company vehicles will arrive at Rutherford approximately 5:00 pm. They will drive through the outer loop of Rutherford on East and West Rutherford Drives.  The recommended locations to watch the Santa drive through are at the intersections of Pheasant, Patricia, Rolling, Colfax, and Greenfield with the East and West Rutherford loop.

We are sorry that this may disappoint some children, but the fire company has made this decision for the safety of our residents and their volunteers.  We trust everyone understands.

Your dues make it possible for the Rutherford Civic Association to provide a donation to the Fire Company for providing this visit.

Nomination / Election of Officers

As a result of the cancellation of the RCA meetings since March, the annual Election of Officers for the April 2020-2021 meeting was postponed.  As reported in the Rutherford NewsFlash dated May 16, 2020, in the interim, the 2019-2020 officers are remaining in office to conduct necessary business such as ensuring a snow removal contract was awarded, the entrance lawn care is being maintained, and filing of necessary Federal Tax-Exemption, State Franchise Tax, and Snow Removal reimbursement forms.

Although the current RCA officers have accomplished many good things, they have held office for many years and would like to pass on the opportunity to others who may have fresh ideas to improve the association.

Nominations for Association offices can be made now.  The date for elections will be determined when the meeting schedule is established.

If you are interested in becoming an officer, please let us know. You can self-nominate; or if you know someone who would accept the nomination, you can nominate them.  Nominations can be made by e-mailing your nominations to one of the current officers (e-mail addresses are shown on the header), mailing the attached form to the address shown on the header, or at the next meeting.  Persons making nominations and persons nominated must be a member in good standing with our Association, (current with your dues).  Each household may submit two votes.

 Snow Removal Contract

The services of Monaghan Fencing have been secured for snow removal this winter.

Caution: Several residents have placed grates or plates at the end of their driveway.  These are not visible when covered with snow.  Several years ago, the snow plow caught one of these plates and significant damage occurred when the plate hit a nearby vehicle.

 Civic Association Dues

Most residents have not paid the April 2020 to April 2021 Civic Association membership dues because of the inactivity of our association during the COVID pandemic.  (Dues have been received for only 18 residences for the 2020-2021 year). For those who have not been adversely financially impacted by COVID-19, please mail a check made out to Rutherford Civic Association to the address above or give a check to any officer. Dues are $20.00 per year. If you have any questions about your membership status, please contact our Treasurer, Fred Kellermann at skipper@kellermanns.com.

Thanks to the Entrance Maintenance Volunteers

The Civic Association is again grateful for our youth volunteers who mow the Entrance area to Rutherford at Rt 4 and Rolling Dr.  Thank you, Kylee Mann and Ethan Williams.  We also want to thank their parents for providing the mower and other support for them.

Storm Drains – Autumn Leaves

Is there a clogged storm drain near your home?  If you are able, please remove the leaves and debris blocking water entry to the drain.  You could prevent flooding of your property and those around you, especially with freezing temperatures and snow melt.

 Block Watch Report

New Castle County Police Department stresses the need to report any crime or suspicious activities.  Reporting these events will aid police in assigning patrols where needed.  If little or nothing is reported, our police believe there is little or no crime. We are fortunate that crime is relatively low in Rutherford, but please make sure all crime or suspicious activities are reported.

When should you call 9-1-1?

If it is life threatening or an emergency, such as burglary, theft, assault, drug dealing, or suspicious persons, etc. in progress, please call 9-1-1 immediately.

You may also call the non-emergency number for dog barking, loud music, unregistered or abandoned vehicles, etc., at 302-573-2800.  Whoever you call, be specific and give a good description and a vehicle tag number if possible.  Tell them whether you would like personal contact or no contact with the investigating officer.

Rutherford NewsFlash E-mail Distribution, Did you know?

The Rutherford Newsflash allows us to promptly distribute information, rather than wait for the next newsletter.  If you would like to be added to or removed from our distribution list, notify us at the next meeting or send an email to: firststatemel@verizon.net
