Welcome to the Southwest Perry Civic Association, your newest weapon against the dissection of our township by the proposed I-69 route from I-465 through Perry Township via S.R. 37.
Regardless of what you may have heard, this route is not a “done deal” as INDOT would have you believe. There are still many steps that can be taken to stop the financially strapped state of Indiana from wasting millions of YOUR tax dollars when a much less expensive route is available that will satisfy the need for the federally mandated highway through Indiana. We intend to pursue every option at our disposal, but we need your help.
Because there are so many concerned citizens who oppose this route, many of the smaller neighborhood and homeowners associations in Perry Township are banding together to get our voices heard by the people who will have the final word on the location of this international trade highway.
Because we cannot do this without your volunteer support, we invite all residents who oppose this route to join our organization. Residents within the organizational boundaries of US 31, County Line Road, Thompson Road and Belmont are asked to join as full members, while anyone may join as associate members, adding the power of their voices to ours.
We encourage residents to educate themselves about the candidates who are seeking public office to represent us and let them know we will not support proponents of this waste of our tax dollars. Let them know we will not stand silently by and allow them to take away our homes, businesses and the much needed tax base that they represent for our township.
This route would cut off many residents from the rapid emergency services that their tax dollars support, heavily impact traffic patterns, pose a significant risk to well field contamination and increase noise and air pollution in a city already fighting to comply with federal air pollution mandates.
Regardless of the outcome of the fall elections, Governor Joe Kernan (who is already on record in support of this route) will be asked to make some important decisions regarding I-69 early in 2004. Remind him that he represents us, and that 92% of the public have said NO to a new terrain I-69. You can contact Governor Kernan by emailing him at jkernan2@state.in.us or by calling his office at 317-232-4567.
