what are our rights to noise polution?

Posted in: River Trails

Does anyone know about curfews during school sessions? Or the weekends? And/Or are they different during summertime hours?

My concern is that, one of our neighbors to the side of us purchased a Basketball Hoop/court for his family! (No problem)....

Playing in your back yard during daylight hours(during the weekend)/or after school...NO Problem!

BUT...when the child decides to play basketball during the school year AFTER 8:30PM or 9:00PM, when we have to work the following day.....NOT Good!

Or like in another example....." they started playing basketball with their kid friends, at 10:40PM...on a Saturday night.....and started hollering "pass the ball" etc, and lasted till I said "Can you please keep it down over there, people are trying to sleep"!  That comment was made at 12:41AM (in the morning)!  This really got my goat!

I heard them laugh, but they did respectfully stopped! But....in my opinion it should NOT have taken ME to say something at those morning hours!  And YES...the parents were home!

I have lived here since Feb. 1997...seen this community grow to what it is today!  But this type of situations...has ME really thinking that Just Maybe...it's time to move on!

If it's not that...then across the street, I have a neighbor who just lets their dog bark and bark and bark....till I step out and look towards the direction of the home!

Again...this type of behaviors by residents....Is not something I ever thought would make someone like myself.....CONSIDER moving!

Any thoughts....Please Cry

Thanks in Advance...

EARPLUGS, MAYBE THOSE SOUND PROOF HEADPHONES,  I WOULD RATHER HAVE KIDS PLAYING BASKETBALL,  THEN SAY STEALING CARS, ETC.

If the housing market was not so horrible we would be out of here in a heart beat... Having a terrible neighbor sucks!

Pizza (in regards to your reply):

"I WOULD RATHER HAVE KIDS PLAYING BASKETBALL,  THEN SAY STEALING CARS, ETC."

Not quite sure HOW...someone NOT playing Basketball....would some how lead to Stealing Cars...Etc!, (as you put it!)

AND....your comment of  "EARPLUGS, MAYBE THOSE SOUND PROOF HEADPHONES" is quite frankly an inappropiate answer, to a concern from one of your neighbors.

I am presently working at City Hall....and could have simply gone to the Code Compliance Department and speak with personnel there.

But instead' I elected; as a long-time resident of this neighborhood (since 96), to take this to our River Trails Neighborhood Association Link Network.....First!

As for my Post'....

I was NOT concerned with the fact that the child had a basketball hoop/court- area in his backyard.  Nor...that he had friends over; to entertain themselves while at the same time getting some exercise! (I'm all for that)

The issue was regarding the TIME FRAME'(in the evenings/after 8PM), in which this young man was choosing to start his hours of shooting hoops and children yelling back and forth.  For it was indeed during the Work Week, and it happens to be..."presently", during the time in which school is Now' in session!

Believe ME...."if this situation would have been in your backyard, and you had to be at work early the following morning" during the week....

"EARPLUGS....MAYBE THOSE SOUND PROOF HEADPHONES"....would not have been, an answer that You' would have liked to receive.

I would like to believe' THAT....

While addressing issues on this community website, for all to read;

That just maybe' we could enlighten one another as community residents to valueable/and positive feedback on Questions, Issues or Concerns, that may affect YOU, Myself, or SOMEONE ELSE in this River Trails Sub-Division!

Sincerely:
