1. Number of construction trucks is estimated as 60 one way trips per day by 18 wheelers on Argentine and Rose Streets as well as up and along the Pass for three summer seasons (May to October 1, truck each 12 minutes - and remember, smaller trucks only mean MORE trips.
2. Vibration from construction trucks and potential blasting will have an effect, yet to be determined, on the National Historic District residences and commercial buildings
3. Negative effect of construction trucks and potential blasting on Georgetown roads and traffic
4. Negative impact on tourist visits during high tourist season which can only result in negative economic impact on town businesses which in turn affects our Town budget and ultimately each and every tax payer in Georgetown. (Apx 70% of the Town budget comes from Sales Tax Revenue)
5. Air Quality will be negatively affected by the number of trucks traveling through Georgetown as well as by the construction activity above us on Leavenworth Mountain.
6. Noise Impact from vehicles and actual construction is another negative impact.
7. Safety hazards for residents and visitors will increase
8. The intangible and hard to measure quality of life will undoubtedly be diminished
1. Road width throughout total construction destroys rural and rustic nature - increases speed(proposed minimum footprint is 32 feet in alternatives - construction affects additional area adjacent to construction of road, plus guardrails, retaining walls, etc.)
2. Cutting back of the mountainside affects the nature of the road and its environment
3. Major impact on the adjacent environment - roll back into hillside
4. Realignment into prime forest areas is highly destructive
5. Design is intrusive on the scenic and aesthetic quality of the area
6. Design not in keeping with rural and rustic nature of the road
7. Is there a funding plan for future maintenance by Clear Creek County?
From the giant federally funded multi-year construction project. We need to keep big government from turning our favorite rural and rustic road into a highway. We need to keep the Guanella Pass environment in its pristine condition for all to enjoy now and in the future. FHWA has finally issued the new Alternative #6 which to most all of us is nothing more than a slight modification of prior proposals. It still means massive construction and destruction on Guanella Pass.
We need your help as time is running out! We realize it is the holiday season and how very busy we all get. However, without your help in circulating petitions, attending meetings and putting your opinion in writing, we will not succeed in having our voice heard regarding this most important decision on what happens to Guanella Pass and OUR Community.
· ATTEND UPCOMING MEETINGS
· WRITE YOUR OPINION TO FHWA, CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, THE US FOREST SERVICE AND THE TOWN OF GEORGETOWN- ELECTED OFFICIALS
· CIRCULATE/SIGN A PETITION
