from the giant federally funded multi-year construction project. Help keep big government from turning our favorite mountain pass into a highway. Does anyone really believe fixing potholes with pavement is really going to keep Guanella pass in its pristine condition.
This is the last stand. The Federal Highway Administration has finally issued its Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement in which they offer Alternative 6, which to most all of us is nothing more than a slight modification of the prior proposals. It would still mean massive construction and destruction, and enormous waste of our tax dollars.
We seek your help! Please fill out the enclosed petition and find some friends who feel the same way you do. Tell the FHWA (Federal Highway Administration) you don't want any change to Guanella Pass. Tell them to choose alternative 1, the no build alternative, and reallocate our federal tax dollars to something important.
Please get on the Internet at www.cflhd.gov/projects/co/guanella and look at Alternative 6. Notice the similarities between the other "build" alternatives that have been rejected by the public and Alternative 6. Notice the vague language used in this document and imagine this project dragging on for years. Who do you think pays for these type of projects?
There are several meetings intended for public comment on this issue but most who live out of town will not be able to attend. Your voice can still be heard by writing a letter to the following address and letting them know you are against this project:
Mr. Richard Cushing
Environmental Planning Engineer
Federal Highway Administration
Central Federal Lands Highway Division (HPD-16.5)

Also, we would appreciate very much your help with our petition. Copies are enclosed. Please get all the signatures possible, and return to us by December 1. This is extremely important and your help will not be forgotten. We think it will make the difference.
Sincerely,
Megan and Scott Dugan
