Here is a rough update of issues surrounding Guanella that we are aware of. It appears that the FHWA will meet with the Georgetown Selectmen sometime in May to discuss issues affecting Georgetown vis-a-vis construction. The FHWA also mentioned at the last meeting that they needed to meet with the Park County Commissioners.
The Forest Service has been working on a DRAFT Management plan for the Guanella Pass Scenic Byway. The Forest Service will be issuing a newsletter mid-May that gives an update. This newsletter will also contain a document request form, where you can request to have a copy of the DRAFT Management plan for the Guanella Pass Scenic Byway sent to you. If you do not think you are on the mailing list (much of the list is from the FHWA's mailing list), then call Donna Mickley at 303-275-5166 to get on the list.
By May 25th the DRAFT Management plan for the Guanella Pass Scenic Byway will also be on the Forest Service's web site. We will have a link to the DRAFT Management plan for the Guanella Pass Scenic Byway on this web site.
By mid to late June the Forest Service is aiming to set up meetings for citizen input on the DRAFT Management plan for the Guanella Pass Scenic Byway. They envision these as informal meeting with tables set up, where citizens can be educated on the different proposals within the plan, and can give their input. There will be three meetings - one in Park County, Georgetown, and Lakewood (the Forest Services office.) At these meetings, they will also be taking names of citizens who would like to be on various committees - dealing with various issues affecting the Forest Service's management of the Scenic Byway. So, you can sign up to be on a committee at that time. Then the Forest Service envisions each committee sending one representative to work with the main group. This main group may contain 20 people, 5-8 of which could be citizens. None of this has been completely confirmed yet.
If you would like to volunteer to be on one of the committees, but cannot make any of the meetings, please call Donna Mickley to volunteer.
