Seyburn Block Club was started on September 12, 1999. We begin by giving a block party and from that event being a success a group of neighbors got together, put out flyers to let our other neighbors know we were interested in forming a block club and we have been meeting since then.
Our neighborhood has 34 houses of which 52% are seniors that are retired and living on fixed incomes. Of the 34 houses 5 are two family flats and the remaining are single family dwellings. The houses are large, having 3 to 4 bedrooms, built of brick and frame. We are part of the Stephen Y. Seyburn's Subdivision. There are approximately 8 vacant lots on our block, some have been purchased by the home owners living next door to the lot and the rest are maintained by the residents when the city does not cut the grass.
Two vacant lots at the corner of Seyburn and Mack
are maintained by block club members. We buy and plant flowers in our flower container(which was made of discarded cement). Mack Alive donated a few bushes and trees plus flowers to help beautify the lot. During the summer months the Block Club sale diners on the lot.
Businesses located in our community is a Shell Service Station, Bill's meat market, a small grocery store and a new dollar store. We have access to several churches.
